Through conversations with our neighbors and my involvement in our community, I noticed that many of our greatest opportunities and frustrations came back to the same three areas: connection, participation, and accessibility.
The experiences people valued most came from feeling connected to their neighbors, informed about what was happening in their community, and able to participate in the life of our city.
Likewise, many of the challenges our neighbors experience reflected missed opportunities to strengthen those same connections, expand participation, and improve accessibility.
This campaign is built around three priorities that I believe will help us make better use of everything Apple Valley has already invested in while strengthening our social and civic infrastructure, supporting public safety, and building a community for every stage of life.
Connect. Contribute. Access.
As a first-time candidate, I’ll earn trust the same way I plan to serve: by being present in the community, staying engaged with our neighbors, and remaining accessible to the people I represent.
Connect
City Council has the opportunity to shape more than roads, buildings, and budgets. It plays an important role in creating the conditions that strengthen public safety and allow communities to thrive by investing in the relationships, partnerships, and programming that help neighbors connect.
Connect means using the tools available to local government to intentionally create more opportunities for neighbors to know one another by activating the spaces, organizations, and resources that already exist throughout Apple Valley.
Priorities
- Prioritize investment in programming that brings residents together across generations and neighborhoods.
- Expand partnerships with Community Education, local organizations, and community groups to activate existing public spaces and increase community programming.
- Support neighborhood organizations and resident-led initiatives that strengthen community connections.
Why it matters
Connection is protective infrastructure.
Research consistently shows that communities with stronger social connections experience lower crime, better health outcomes, greater civic participation, and stronger economic resilience. Investing in relationships is an investment in the long-term strength, safety, financial wellbeing, and resilience of our community.
Contribute
Strong local government depends on strong civic participation. Residents should have meaningful opportunities to contribute their ideas, participate in their community, and help shape the decisions that affect everyday life. Creating those opportunities is one of the local government’s most important responsibilities.
Contribute means creating clear pathways for residents to participate in community life, connect with local government, and understand where their time, resources, ideas, and experience can make a difference.
Priorities
- Expand opportunities for residents to participate in community life and local government.
- Establish neighborhood-based advisory groups and community engagement initiatives that strengthen relationships between residents and local government.
- Make public engagement more accessible by creating new participation tools and feedback channels that make it easier for residents to share ideas and help shape city decisions.
- Improve communication about city programs, volunteer opportunities, community initiatives, public meetings, and ways residents can get involved.
Why it matters
Participation strengthens communities.
Communities are strongest when residents have meaningful opportunities to contribute their time, resources, ideas, and experience. Creating clear pathways for participation strengthens trust, increases civic engagement, supports local organizations, and helps ensure more voices are reflected in the decisions that shape our city.
When people have a voice in their community, they become more invested in its future.
Access
Residents should be able to navigate their community with confidence through clear, accessible pathways to local government, city services, community programs, and public spaces.
Access means reducing the barriers that prevent residents from fully participating in their community. That includes improving communication, strengthening mobility, and making local government, city services, and community opportunities easier to reach, navigate, and use.
Priorities
- Make local government more visible, accessible, and responsive by improving communication and opportunities for residents to stay informed and engaged.
- Strengthen neighborhood-based liaison networks that connect residents to city programs, services, transportation resources, and community opportunities.
- Support mobility, walkability, and transportation options that improve access for residents at every stage of life.
- Advocate for thoughtful land use that creates more connected, accessible, and walkable neighborhoods.
Why it matters
Access turns public investment into public value.
When residents can easily find information, navigate city services, and reach the programs and spaces available to them, they are better equipped to participate in community life and benefit from the investments our city has already made. Removing barriers to access helps ensure those investments serve more people, more effectively.
A city provides the greatest value when the people it serves know how to take full advantage of everything it has to offer.
